Dry Skin

Let’s start today with a smile and a lot of hope!

Ok, the cold weather is here. At least where I live the cold has set in and lasts around 5 months. Most days are filled with gloomy, cold, breezy, sunless weather. I know my skin suffers from the weather and it gets dry. I have tried many different creams and lotions but usually they help for just a little bit. I often refer to my skin as elephant skin but I have found just the right blend in my oils that seem to help with the rough patches. I will include the recipe and you can try it on your skin.

Ingredients:
10 drops Frankincense Oil
10 drops Lavender Oil
10 drops Purification Oil

Add oils to 1/4 cup carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil)
Apply where needed

Oh sleep, where art thou?

Let’s start today with a smile and a lot of hope!

Let’s talk about sleep, you know the one thing some of us can never get enough of. I know if I can’t get at least 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep my day drags by and I can be a little cranky, does this sound like you?

I have tried sleep aids, sleepy teas, counting sheep (Lol), I tried meditation and even went as far as replacing my mattress. Nothing, not one thing helped and I was growing more anxious with everything I tried that didn’t help me. My family was even starting to avoid the “bear” I had become. I missed them and I missed my sleep, so I turned to my oils and desperately searched the internet for recipes to help me get to sleep.

I tried a few here or there until I found one that worked for me. If you have trouble falling asleep maybe this is just the recipe you need. Try it tonight and find the sleep you need.

Ingredients:
10ml roller bottle
10 drops Lavender Oil
10 drops Stress Away
10 drops Cedarwood

Fill remainder of roller with a carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil)
Apply to feet and wrists before going to bed

Acne Roller

Let’s start today with a smile and a lot of hope!

Ok, so as you all have heard I have 4 kids and one of my sons, my 15 year old has problems with his skin. It seems he is constantly breaking out. No matter the type of skin products we use it’s never really completely healed his acne. It isn’t completely gone but it has improved.

I know I keep saying we strive to be chemical free but I would never push to be chemical free on anyone not to mention a member of my family. My son tells me he isn’t interested in using oils but I managed to convince him to at least give it a try.

I will include the recipe we are trying with his regular face wash and we are already getting results that look much better.

ingredients:
10 ML roller bottle
7 drops of purification oil
7 drops of lavender oil
7 drops frankincense oil
7 drops of tea tree oil

fill remainder of the bottle with a carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil)

Use it twice a day on clean dry skin

Musty Laundry

Let’s start today with a smile and a lot of hope!

So here we are again on the laundry subject, which reminds me I have to wash the towels tomorrow. This will be the last post about laundry I swear even though my laundry woes are never over but you know who is ever finished doing laundry. Unless someone comes up with disposable clothes I think we all will be forever doing laundry.

Ok so we all have those moments where life gets busy or we get distracted and forget to put the wet clothes from the washer into the dryer. Sometimes we forget them for 2 days, hint hint that’s me often. Well here is what I do especially if it’s the towels I have forgotten. There is nothing worse than showering and realizing there is not a single clean towel to be had. You go to the washer and there they all are, still damp but wooo the smell that comes out of that washer? You know that just a simple rinse is not going to cut it and you know it’s gonna take a full wash cycle to take care of that. I always go the extra step to make sure that I get rid of the smell so when we use those “clean” towels they truly smell clean. I will include the recipe below for how we deal with musty laundry

Ingredients
• 1/2 cup baking soda
• 6-8 drops Purification essential oil
• normal amount of laundry detergent (see our Liquid Laundry Detergent recipe!)

Directions
• Start your washer.
• Add the baking soda, Purification essential oil, and usual amount of laundry detergent to the washer.
• Add the musty laundry.
• Run a wash cycle as normal.
• Repeat if necessary but we’ve found that one cycle is usually enough.
• Dry as usual. (We love our Wool Dryer Balls to help speed up drying time, especially with towels!)

For a huge boost in freshness, we add 2 drops of essential oil to each dryer ball about 5 minutes before we load them. This allows the essential oils to be absorbed. Our favorite is Citrus Fresh essential oil blend. But you can use whatever scent makes you happy!

DIY Fabric Softener Sheets

Let’s start today with a smile and a lot of hope!

I know, I have been talking a lot about laundry this week but let’s face it, large families have a never ending amount of laundry. In my home I have certain days that I do laundry for the boys in our family, certain days I do my laundry with my daughters and the never ending mound of towels that get done twice a week.

Since I have let y’all in on our common laundry staples I thought, why not, give them all the recipes that will set them up with a chemical free way of doing laundry too.

Ingredients
• washed and colorfast knit fabric (use knit because it won’t unravel – old t-shirts are GREAT for this)
• cute glass jar with lid
• 10 drops Lavender essential oil
• 10 drops Lemongrass essential oil
• 1 cup distilled white vinegar
Directions
• Cut your knit fabric into 24 4-inch squares. I like my fabric to be pretty since it makes doing laundry less boring, right? Make sure it’s a pre-washed fabric that won’t bleed onto the clothes in the wash.
• Place the fabric into the cute glass container. Again, laundry stinks. Pretty makes it bearable.
• Drop the Lavender and Lemongrass essential oils onto the fabric.
• Pour in the vinegar. Swirl to coat all the squares. Fabric could be pretty damp. You can cut the recipe in half if you like.
• To use: Take out one square of fabric and throw it in your dryer with a load. When the load is dry, set the dry fabric aside or just throw it back in the container since it’s clean. If you use the wipes for the other cool ideas in this post, you’ll want to wash and dry them before placing them back into the glass container.

Check out 12 Uses for Homemade Dryer Sheets:
1. Place one at the bottom of your garbage can to neutralize odor.
2. Throw on in the diaper pail to help control the smell.
3. Run a damp dryer sheet over your sofa or carpet to pick up pet hair. (Check for colorfastness first, of course!)
4. Place a homemade dryer sheet in your trunk.  It will smell fresher!
5. Run a dryer sheet over your ceiling fan for a quick dusting pick-me-up that smells amazing!
6. Throw a handful of damp dryer sheets in your child’s gym shoes, ice skates, or equipment bag.
7. In a pinch, you can swipe one of these dryer sheets over your kitchen faucet to get rid of water spots.
8. Use a dryer sheet to clean around your lint trap on your dryer!
9. Place a dryer sheet in your swim or beach bag to keep musty odors away from damp clothes.
10. Put a dryer sheet in your filing cabinet at work to freshen your work area without a diffuser.
11. Put a dryer sheet in your tent when you pack it up for the winter so it will be fresh and ready next summer.
12. Tuck a dryer sheet in your umbrella rack to fend off smelly, musty odors.
Tips for reducing static in the dryer:
1. Reduce your drying time by 10 – 15 minutes. This can keep your clothes from getting overly dry.
2. Separate cotton from man-made fabrics. The mixture of textiles can cause static in your dryer.
3. Dry your clothes for 10 minutes in the dryer and then finish them with an air dry. I do this and my clothes definitely don’t get worn out as fast…and yes, no static!

DIY Natural Fabric Softener/Detergent

Let’s start today with a smile and a lot of hope!

Ok, so yesterday I let you in on some of our laundry staples and today I’m gonna add to it. Have you ever noticed that some of those pesky fabric softener sheets leave your clean clothes feeling a little, shall we say “sticky”? Or how about all the chemicals that are used in the liquid softeners? I have kids with sensitive skin and some that are scent sensitive so I have found that using the following recipe covers all our needs. No more “sticky” feel from those dryer sheets, No more itchy skin for my sensitive skin kids and no more over powering scent for the kids that are sensitive to smells. POW! All bases covered. This could be just what you need in your laundry staples too!

Ingredients
• 1/4 cup Dr. Bronner’s Organic Lavender Pure Castile Soap
• 5 drops Lavender essential oil
• 5 drops Bergamot essential oil
• 1/2 cup baking soda
• 1/3 cup white vinegar
Directions
• Add soap and essential oils to normal washing machine soap dispenser.
• Sprinkle 1/2 cup baking soda over the clothes in the washer.
• Pour 1/3 cup of vinegar into the fabric softener dispenser (or add during final rinse).
• Wash color loads and towels on cool water as normal.
• Dry laundry and enjoy freshly scented, soft laundry with no harsh chemicals!
That’s it. It’s an easy routine for us and it keeps our clothes clean and soft without adding harsh or dangerous chemicals.

Couple of extra laundry tips:
• DO NOT add the vinegar to the beginning of the washing cycle. It will react badly with the Castile soap and you will not like the results.

• For a load of whites, we would add 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide to the normal place assigned for adding bleach.  Then we wash on hot water setting.

Liquid Laundry Detergent

Let’s start off today with a smile and a lot of hope!

With 6 people in our home, we do a TON of laundry so it was important to us that the detergent we used met our three criteria for successful laundry detergent:

•It gets clothes clean
•Removes odors
•It doesn’t leave a yucky residue in our washer

We tried many natural types of laundry detergent but most were powder form and using that in my HE washer I was a little leery. I was finding dried powder in my washer and also on my dark clothing and that was unacceptable. So after many trial and errors I came across this recipe and decided to give it a go. I was amazed to find it worked and there was no lingering smell left on our clothes or in my washer.I will include the recipe we are currently using and you be the judge. Try it one time and you will be hooked.

Ingredients
•2/3 cup Sal Suds
•2 2/3 cups water
•2/3 cup baking soda
•30 drops Purification Essential Oil
•1 quart sized mason jar

Directions
•Place water, baking soda, and essential oil in the jar.
•Add soap.
•Replace the lid and swirl to combine.

To use:
•Add 1/4 cup detergent per HE load. Use 1/2 cup for regular washing machine.
•Optional: Add vinegar in rinse as a natural fabric softener and to remove any remaining odors or residue.
•Optional: 1/3 – 1 cup vinegar per load

Stress Away Oil

Let’s start off today with a smile and a lot of hope!

Oh Stress Away, oh Stress Away, how lovely do you make me feel?

This oil, y’all. I just love it. It smells SO good. Have you tried it yet? You really should.

First let’s see how you can use it safely:
SAFE WAYS TO USE STRESS AWAY ESSENTIAL OIL:
Aromatically in your home diffuser or inhaling straight from the bottle
Topically; Apply Stress Away Roll-on as needed. Dilution is not required.
Dietary: Stress Away is safe for ingestion.

There aren’t any earth-shattering tips or tricks that I can tell you about how to use this oil. Just use it.
Rub it on your wrists, your neck, your temples, behind your knees- pretend like it’s your favorite perfume and just dab it on. It smells DELICIOUS, and so will you, when you use it.

And so will your house when you diffuse it. I have Stress Away in my diffuser almost CONSTANTLY. I love to mix 5 drops Stress Away, 5 drops Orange and 5 drops Bergamot for the happiest smelling diffuser blend that I can possibly recommend to you. The citrus oils are all happy smelling to me (especially lime) but when you add the Stress Away it just takes it to a whole nother level.
And really, these days, who DOESN’T need their stress to go away?

Sore Throat Roller

Let’s start off today day with a smile and a lot of hope!
Have you ever woken up with a sore throat? How about someone that lives in your home? Well I have a Roller recipe that could help with that.

In our home I have 4 kids as I have said before and let me tell you, it seems like there is a never ending amount of exposure to germs. Especially if you have young children in daycare that are in extremely close contact with all the other children in daycare. I know that all teachers and daycare providers try their best to keep the germs at a minimal but sometimes it’s just unavoidable.

I have used this recipe on my 6 year old daughter several times so far since school has started and the results are awesome. The last time I used this my daughter came to me shortly before bed time and informed me that her throat was sore. I went to my oils box and pulled out my “sore throat” roller, applied it to the outside of her throat and sent her on her way. I checked in with her about 20 minutes later to see how her throat was feeling. She looked at me and said, ” Momma, my throat is all better and it doesn’t hurt any more.” I told her that I was happy that it helped her throat feel better.

Now don’t take my word for it, you would have to try it out to believe it for yourself but I will include the recipe we use in our home so you can try it in yours.

Here is what you will need:

10ml Roller Bottle
10 drops of Lemon oil
10 drops of Purification

fill the remainder of the bottle with a carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil or almond oil)

Apply to the outside of the throat as needed

Immmunity Roller

Let’s start off today with a smile and a lot of hope.
I have ventured into Young Living as an avenue to create an income to help support my big family of 6 and to attempt to keep us all a little bit healthier. Now I know what you might all be thinking, ” A family of six really isn’t that big.” but the reality of it is when you have 4 children that are constantly bringing germs into your home from their school, you might need a little help keeping their immunity up and yours as well.

So here is a good place to start, the Immunity Roller is a combination of oils mixed together with a carrier oil in a convenient roller bottle. This combination of oils can be applied to the back along the spine and the bottoms of the feet twice a day. I know, I know, sounds crazy, right? Well maybe not but if it helps, I will include the recipe that we use here in our home. Check it out and see if you have the same results in your home.

Here is the Immunity roller recipe:

In a glass 10ml roller bottle mix:

10 drops Thieves
10 drops Purification
10 drop Frankincense
fill remainder of roller bottle with a carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil or almond oil)
Apply to back along the spine and to the bottoms of feet, twice a day
